Dreamwrecks of DreamWrecks of the Carribean the Caribbean

Ever since the story of the Titanic hit the big screen,
shipwrecks have caught the popular imagination.

DreamWrecks captures this enthusiasm in a television series covering six of the most spectacular wrecks of the Caribbean. Each carefully selected for their visual splendour and the compelling human stories behind them.

DreamWrecks is presented by Dominique Sérafini and Catherine Salisbury – co-authors of the popular book “The Best Shipwrecks of Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao” — the initial result of four years of exploring, photographing and painting shipwrecks all over the Caribbean.

With his fifteen years as a working member of the Cousteau Team, Dominique is a well-known and respected character in the diving world. He has spent his life driven by two passions — the sea and his art.

His most important body of work was created on board the Calypso as underwater illustrator and writer for l'Equipe Cousteau. From 1982 to 1997, Dominique created 17 animated books for children inspired by Jacques Cousteau's expeditions around the world. Carrying a strong ecological theme, the collection has been translated into ten different languages and is distributed worldwide.

Catherine is a passionate scuba diver, photographer and adventurer whose work has been published in numerous international dive and travel publications.

She moved to the Caribbean in 1999 to combine her love for the sea with her publishing and photographic skills. Over the last couple of years, Catherine has held numerous exhibitions of her underwater photos.

The two make a perfect team to explore both underwater, the visual grandeur of these mysterious wrecks — and above, on the islands themselves to search out the special characters who will bring these stories to life. For some wrecks, survivors can tell first hand the story of a ship’s demise

Much of the excitement of diving a wreck is sensing the vessel’s dramatic history while exploring deep inside its hulls. The story of their sinking is often intertwined with the unofficial history of the island, and contributes to island lore. One can discover much about an island through its shipwrecks.

In addition, the wrecks all act as prolific artificial reefs, attracting a rich and colourful marine life… making them spectacular to photograph and to paint.

In DreamWrecks, the diving duo of Sérafini and Salisbury bring together all these element in a highly visual and entertaining mix — which provides a unique look at a little known aspect of the Caribbean — which in itself one of the most diverse natural and cultural preserves on Earth.
